The next edition of the festival will take place in Bern from 5 February to 5 March 2023. The Berner Klaviertrio opens the festival in the Zentrum Paul Klee.
We are looking forward to welcome you!
In 2023 we look forward to new impulses in the piano trio genre. We are particularly interested in historically oriented performance practice and its further development through new music.
We continue to cultivate the established classical instrumentation of the piano trio (violin, cello and piano), but also discover musical rarities such as Bach's and Mozart's triple concertos for three pianos and orchestra.
Three ensembles were not initially defined. Our partners HKB and ORPHEUS Swiss Chamber Music Competition will select two groups in an independent selection process by the end of 2022. The third ensemble will be nominated for a spin-off concert by an open call. The only condition: the talent and a zest for action of the participants, who make up a trio with a piano and two other instruments.
Elena Ralli about her commissioned work for Piano Trio Fest 2023:
„The piece develops the confrontation between the dynamics of the members of an ensemble formation. Between trio moments, the individual musicians are given a «podium» - time to bring their own imagination to the music.
The piece illustrates the different personalities of the performers, which can be perceived through the individual instrument. The different characteristics are presented in the form of musical portraits, inspired by existing drawn portraits, formed and illustrated within 4 centuries, where the exact figures slowly disappear and melt into each other“.
